TAIGA ORCA is one of the most thoroughly developed electric personal watercraft on the market — far enough along that it competes with premium petrol models from Sea-Doo, Kawasaki and Yamaha not only on power and equipment, but on the general standard of the machine. In this article we go through what makes the ORCA range interesting, where TAIGA MOTORS came from, and why the ORCA is treated today as one of the most serious electric answers in the jet ski industry.
TAIGA MOTORS: the brand that turned an electric jet ski into a real alternative
TAIGA MOTORS is a Canadian company from Montreal, founded in 2015 by engineers Sam Bruneau, Paul Achard and Gabriel Bernatchez. All three studied at McGill University, one of the best-known technical universities in Canada. In setting up TAIGA MOTORS they gave themselves an ambitious brief: build electric machines that can compete with petrol equivalents not only on emissions, but on power, handling and equipment.
Unlike many startups that never get past concepts and show prototypes, TAIGA moved to series production relatively quickly. The brand made its name first with electric snowmobiles, then introduced the ORCA range — one of the first genuinely complete production platforms in the electric jet ski segment.
The defining thing about TAIGA's approach is that ORCA is being developed as a full production product rather than as a technology demonstrator. The company is not betting on one headline number but on the platform as a whole: premium build, its own ecosystem, fast charging, current levels of equipment and real usability in real conditions. That is why the TAIGA ORCA reads today as one of the most finished electric jet skis on the market rather than as experimental hardware.
TAIGA pays particular attention to the digital side and to how the electronics fit into everyday use. The ORCA has a large digital display, GPS, LTE connectivity, a mobile app and remote control over the machine's functions. An owner can use geofencing, for example — defining specific areas of operation and limits, so the craft stays inside the boundaries you set or automatically restricts itself in a chosen zone. There are also over-the-air system updates, remote access to machine data and a range of configuration options. In practice, the ORCA brings the kind of digital capability to the water that used to belong to modern electric cars rather than to jet skis.
What the TAIGA ORCA does well
The point of the ORCA range is not simply that it is a jet ski without a petrol engine. What matters is that TAIGA managed to build an electric machine that reads as premium equipment in its own right, not as a compromise made for the sake of going electric. There is real power here, immediate response, a modern digital platform and figures that let the ORCA stand next to familiar models from Sea-Doo, Yamaha and Kawasaki.
An electric powertrain up to 120 kW
The TAIGA ORCA P2 and the TAIGA ORCA WX3 both run an electric powertrain rated up to 120 kW, which works out at roughly 160 hp. For an electric jet ski that is a serious figure: it matters not just for top speed but for acceleration, getting onto the plane and the general sense of control under load. An electric motor delivers torque almost immediately, with no delay, so the ORCA feels lively even next to more powerful petrol machines.
Immediate response and linear control
An electric jet ski does not follow the logic of a petrol one, where the character of the acceleration depends on revs, on how the engine responds and on the fuel system. On the TAIGA ORCA the power is delivered more linearly and more predictably: you squeeze the throttle and get a clear reaction straight away. That matters on the water, where precision is noticeable not only at speed but during manoeuvres, turns, riding with a passenger or towing.
Quieter, cleaner and more comfortable to use
One of the ORCA's real strengths is how much quieter it is than a petrol jet ski. That changes the character of a ride: less noise, less vibration, no smell of fuel or exhaust next to the water. For relaxed riding, family use, resorts and private use this is a significant advantage. An electric jet ski like this tires the rider and passengers less, without giving up the performance people buy a powerful machine for in the first place.
A low centre of gravity and stability on the water
TAIGA makes a point of the fact that the key powertrain components sit low in the hull. For a jet ski that matters: a low centre of gravity makes behaviour on the water more stable and more predictable, especially at speed and in turns. It is part of why the ORCA feels confident to steer and holds the water well, rather than feeling like unstable experimental hardware with an electric motor in it.
Up to two hours on the water
TAIGA quotes up to 2 hours of riding in stop-and-go use, and up to 1 hour 20 minutes at continuous full throttle. For an electric machine this is an important number, because real riding is rarely flat-out: it is a mix of acceleration, manoeuvres, stops and quieter stretches. Actual runtime will always depend on speed, load, water temperature, weather and riding style.
Fast charging
Charging remains the main drawback of any electric machine. A petrol jet ski can be refuelled in a few minutes; an electric one needs time on a charger. TAIGA works on this too: on a Level 3 fast charger the ORCA can be brought to roughly 80% in about 20 minutes. Level 3 stations are typically found at yacht clubs, marinas and other places with developed infrastructure. For home use there are Level 2 and Level 1 options: the first charges the ORCA in roughly 3.5 hours, the basic home charger in around 14.
Ride modes for different scenarios
The TAIGA ORCA has several ride modes. The P2 offers Range, Sport and Wild; the WX3 adds Tow, a mode for towing. It is a good illustration of how electronics widen what the machine can do. You can pick the quieter, more efficient mode, switch to sportier handling, or use the WX3 for towing watersports. One jet ski adapts to several jobs instead of having a single fixed character.
Digital display, GPS and app
The TAIGA ORCA carries a 7-inch HD display, GPS, LTE, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and on digital features it sits closer to a modern electric car than to a conventional jet ski. Owners get updates over the internet, can monitor the state of the machine and work with settings through the app.
Geofencing and the Speed Lock function deserve a separate mention. The ORCA lets you define GPS zones of operation and limit speed or power for different users — for beginners, for instance, or for less experienced riders.
The TAIGA ORCA range: P2 and WX3
The ORCA line-up is built around one idea: give the rider an electric jet ski that does not feel like a compromise on power, equipment or practicality. The P2 and the WX3 share most of their technical base — an electric powertrain up to 120 kW, a lithium-ion battery, a 7-inch digital display, GPS, LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and several ride modes. The difference between them is mainly the format: the P2 is built for two people and maximum performance, the WX3 for three people and a wider set of uses.
TAIGA ORCA P2
The TAIGA ORCA P2 is a two-seat electric jet ski aimed at maximum performance and speed while still carrying a passenger. It uses an SMC hull, an electric powertrain up to 120 kW (160 hp), a lithium-ion battery and a direct-drive water jet. The P2 is noticeably shorter than its bigger sibling: 2905 mm long, 1156 mm wide, 1040 mm high, and 355 kg.
The P2 has three ride modes: Range, Sport and Wild. Range suits calmer, more efficient riding, Sport is for active use, and Wild opens up everything the powertrain has. The model also has reverse, which makes manoeuvring in tight spaces — mooring, for example — considerably easier.
In short, the TAIGA ORCA P2 is the answer for owners who want the most performance from a jet ski and are happy with two seats.
TAIGA ORCA WX3
The TAIGA ORCA WX3 is the more versatile model in the range, with three-up seating and a wider set of capabilities for active use. Technically it is close to the P2: the same electric powertrain up to 120 kW / 160 hp, lithium-ion battery, SMC hull, direct-drive water jet and the same digital platform with a 7-inch screen, GPS, LTE, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The main difference is how it is meant to be used. The WX3 seats three, measures 3210 mm long at the same 1156 mm width and 1040 mm height, and weighs 365 kg — a small increase over the P2, but the extra length and seating area make it more practical for passengers, family use and a broader range of days on the water.
Functionally the WX3 goes further with four ride modes: Range, Sport, Wild and the dedicated Tow. The last of these tunes the powertrain for towing, turning the machine into an effective tug for wakesurfing or waterskiing. The model also comes with rear-view mirrors, a solid tow hook and a well thought-out mounting platform for accessories at the stern. That makes the WX3 the more universal platform of the two — not only for speed, but for family time on the water where practicality matters.

The verdict on the TAIGA ORCA
TAIGA ORCA is one of the few electric jet skis that reads today as a genuine premium alternative to petrol machines rather than as an experiment. The range combines high power, a modern digital platform, quiet running and simpler day-to-day use, while keeping the performance and the feel people expect from a powerful jet ski.
Choosing between the two comes down to the format. If you want the most performance and two seats are enough, that is the P2. If you carry passengers, tow, or simply want the more universal machine, the WX3 is the one.
