The Hydroflyer Sport AL is the short board on the entry drivetrain — the cheapest way to get a handlebar-steered hydrofoil that actually wants to turn. At 152 by 83 cm it is a third shorter than the Cruiser, and that missing length is felt as swing weight the board no longer has to drag through a change of direction.

A shorter hull reacts sooner. Where the Cruiser settles into a line, the Sport asks what you want next, which makes it the better choice for carving and for riding an area with things to go around. The 129 litres still float you comfortably before the foil lifts; you simply have less board to move once it does.

AL means fibreglass rather than carbon, and a 60 cm aluminium keel instead of the 78 cm carbon one. The shorter mast is genuinely useful early on — less height to control, less depth needed underneath — and the handlebar column does the rest, giving you a fixed point to hold through the start and the first turns.

The 5.6 kW motor turns a submerged propeller behind a 1,097 cm² front wing for up to 40 km/h and around two hours on the 2.4 kWh battery. The Gen.1 wireless throttle controls it, and the whole kit weighs 42–49 kg depending on configuration.

Hydroflyer Sport AL highlights

Geometry

A third shorter

Cutting 33% off the Cruiser's length removes swing weight, so the board changes direction sooner and gives the Sport AL its livelier character.

Size

Compact platform

152 by 83 cm and 129 litres — enough volume to float you before the foil lifts, little enough board to keep the riding mobile.

Control

A fixed point to hold

On a short platform the handlebar column matters even more: it is the anchor you keep hold of through the start and through every manoeuvre.

Keel

60 cm aluminium

A shorter mast can be easier during first sessions and needs less water beneath it, at the cost of height and lean above the surface.

Drive

5.6 kW of thrust

The motor supplies the push while the front wing converts speed into lift and takes the hull clear of the water.

Speed

Up to 40 km/h

The ceiling for the entry drivetrain. Rider weight, style and the state of the water decide what you see in practice.
